Schedule

Thursday

周四 (Zhōu sì)

Pre-weekend Meet-up in the Hotel Lobby for Social Hour. If you want to arrive early, we will belly up to the bar because the Hero of Canton gets the best whiskey in the house. (Optional, pre-Ball activity, additional cost.)

Friday

星期五 (Xīngqíwǔ)

Registration

Inara and Kaylee Starting at 3pm on Friday, we will have registration set up in the lobby outside the Ballroom (after you enter the Homewood Suites lobby turn right and go down the hallway towards the Ballroom). Pick up your badge and tote bag.

Then head up to the Hospitality Suite to say hi!

Our Hospitality Suite will be open all afternoon, and people are welcome to come hang out after handling registration. A variety of games will be available.

If you’ve always wanted to learn some of the fun Firefly games, now’s your chance. This is also the perfect time to compare notes for various local activities and plan for a great Saturday, or an extended weekend. If this is your first BCB, come introduce yourself and meet the crew.

Reception

Costumes

We officially kick off the Browncoat Ball weekend with a welcome reception at The Centennial Ballroom in the evening!

Starting at about 5pm, we will provide tasty morsels for our Friday night crew (complimentary hors d’oeuvres, gluten-free/vegan options will be available) and libations will available at the cash bar. Various Firefly themed ice breaker games are planned including Firefly themed bingo so you can get to know your fellow guests.

Since it’s Halloween weekend, we’re bringing back the ’Versy cosplay contest. Come as your favorite character or in a thematic outfit, or just something shiny like a fun Halloween character. Costumes are encouraged but not required.

Sean Faust
We will also be entertained by the musical talents of Sean Faust! If you missed Sean at a prior Ball or convention, now is your chance to hear him play and hang out. If you ask him nice, he may even sign a CD for you.

We will finish off the evening with Browncoat Trick or Treat! (mmm, candy)

Big Damn Breakfast

In the morning, we can meet down in the lobby for the hot breakfast included with your room reservation to plot and plan the day’s activities.

Breakfast About Town

There are also several breakfast options (for a fee) at the Promenade across the street.

9:30AM

Get on the Big Damn Bus

If you chose an off-site track, the bus will be leaving the hotel at 9:30AM. Just like a school field trip we expect shenanigans to ensue immediately.

10am – 12pm

Earth That Was

National Museum of Industrial History
or Tour Historic Bethlehem

We return to the Earth that was… for a guided tour of the National Museum of Industrial History (NMIH) at the Steel Stacks (Bethlehem Steel Campus) or a Historic Bethlehem walking tour. We will provide transportation from the hotel to the NMIH or downtown Historic Bethlehem. (Included in the Saturday/Full Weekend). For those who want extra time to explore on their own, there is free parking for the NMIH, and Bethlehem has parking lots/metered street parking.

Stitch ’n’ Bitch & Gaming

For those that want to stay close to our home base, the Hospitality Suite will be open for a Stich ’n’ Bitch with yarn, and needles provided. We can’t say you will be able to make a cunning hat, but you are welcome to try.
Various Firefly themed games will be available for you to play.

12pm – 3pm

Free Range Lunch

Although lunch is not included, our crew will do our best to encourage our attendees to form foraging parties because nothing is more fun that having a great meal with other Browncoats… we might even find someone to make some “wife” soup or homemade bao.

Exploring Bethlehem

The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley (across from the Homewood Suites) has 9 restaurants ranging from family to fine dining, and a batch creamery. Historic Bethlehem has a multitude of small shops, eateries, and a couple of distilleries. We definitely encourage exploring the Christmas City while in town.

Transport

The bus back will make a few return trips back to the hotel. Check for details with your registration packet. If you decide to head back early, the Hospitality Suite will be open.

3pm – 5pm

Primping

For those who want to be prettier than Kaylee at the Shindig, there will be time to get their nails done or their hair put in the latest updo. We will send out a wave at least a week before the big day with all the links to options at the Promenade for attendees to make their own appointments. Also check for posts on the Facebook event.

Pretty ladies The hospitality suite will be closed at 4:00pm to allow all our committee members to get ready, and make final preparations for the Ball.

The Ball

After dinner, we will have a dance caller to help us through the traditional English style dancing as well as a live band or DJ for more modern dancing. Late

Hospitality

Inara with tea After all that, if you still have some energy, we’ll be retiring to various places for late-night shenanigans. Play some games with new friends, go check out any nearby late-night venues, swap more stories of your adventures.

星期日 (Xīngqírì)

Big Damn Breakfast, Again!

Breakfast One last official group event! Again let’s meet up for the complimentary breakfast included with your room (can you tell we’re really trying to sell having the whole BCB group experience).

Firefly T-shirt Swap
As a fun sustainable activity, we will have a Firefly T-shirt exchange. If you have a Firefly shirt that is either too big or too small for you, but could go to a new home. Or you have one that is worn but could be used for a T-shirt quilt. Bring em to the Ball! They need to be clean, of course. The plan is to have it in the Hospitality Suite between 10am and 11am. Anything that is not taken will be donated to a local thrift store.
