Portland Browncoat Ball
October 2-4, 2009 Portland, Oregon, USA
"We have done the impossible, and that makes us mighty."
The
PDX
Browncoats
would like to welcome one and all to our home. The Portland of Oregon. Rose
City. A place where the frontier was forged and the culture is captivating.
Nestled at the end of the
Oregon
Trail,
Portland was built by the rugged rule of survival, much like how the settlers
of the
border
planets
formed their own communities. And one can still feel that same sense of
community here today. Commercially, Portland is a prosperous city of high
trade and business, but underneath all that high-falutin' exchange of coin and
power lies a sleepy town of good-minded friendly folk. When you visit our
little community, you'll feel like stepping into a comfy living room. Sit
back, relax, and let Portlanders show you around. Show you why we settled this
particular planet...er—town.
Let us introduce you to our friendship with like-minded folk from the east.
Portland's sister city is
Suzhou,
China.
The Chinese culture thrives in The Rose City from the dim sum restaurants of
Chinatown to the welcoming Asian communities of east Portland. Come with us as
we explore the art and beauty of our two merging cultures.
Portland proudly lays claim to some of the best artistic talent out there when
it comes to comics and graphic novels. Not only does local talent thrive here,
in the art of
Mike
Russell,
David
Stroup,
and
Bill
Mudron,
but we are also home to well-known Brian Michael Bendis and
Dark
Horse
Comics.
Dark Horse, which proudly offers us Serenity and Buffy comics, is the
offspring of
Things
From Another
World
comic stores, which was born and raised in our fair city as well.
Whether you have a passion for comic books, a desire to see the cultures of
Firefly/Serenity come alive, or just want to get to know your fellow
Browncoats in their own living room, come to Portland in October of 2009.
Our door is open. See you in the world.
