Need a diversion?

The Pennsylvania Browncoats are hosting a legit fancy party with a passel of Firefly fans from near and far for a mighty fine shindig in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania from October 25-27, 2024.

The Browncoat Ball — held near annually since 2004 in various cities throughout the U.S. — bringing together Firefly fans from across the country — is exactly the kind of diversion you could use in these mighty chaotic times.

Bring your friends, or come solo and make new ones, to a weekend of fun, games, food, music, dancing and new friends.

I don’t suppose you’d find it up to the standards of your outings. More conversation and somewhat less petty theft and getting hit with pool cues.

Our host hotel is Homewood Suites by Hilton Allentown Bethlehem Center Valley connected to the Centennial Event Center wherein the banquet and Ball will commence.

Follow that shiny star to return to Earth that was!

The proposed schedule for the weekend will allow you to choose from among a variety of activities in the little town of Bethlehem:

• Attend the Friday Night reception for games and raffle and music.
• Have breakfast with your crew.
• Visit the National Museum of Industrial History.
• Tour the Bethlehem Steel Stacks.
• Take a Historic Bethlehem walking tour.
• Learn to make bao.
• Stay on lockdown with your crewmates in the hospitality suite for crafts and gaming.

Finally, at the Banquet and Ball on Saturday:

• Come dressed in your fanciest fripperies. (store bought is fine)
• Question the buffet table. There may be chocolate. Or strawberries.
• Costume contest.
• Music and dancing.
• Raffles and silent auction.
• Centerpiece auction.
• More music and dancing.
• Even more hospitality (stamina permitting).

Of course, you couldn’t buy an invite with a diamond the size of a testicle. But I know where you can get your hands on a couple. Of invites.
