Schedule of Events

The following is to give you an idea of what you can expect during the Browncoat Ball weekend. However, the times and details should not be taken as final.

Friday, October 4, 2013

We will have the Registration Table set up in the lobby of the hotel at noon. Guests will get all of the information about the weekend and a schedule.

The Hospitality room will be open beginning that afternoon and through much of the weekend. The room is a place where Browncoat Ball guests can relax, chat, and get snacks and soft drinks. It will be closed during the Ball on Saturday night. There will now be gaming and video included inside the Hospitality Room, as our location has changed from an upstairs suite to the first floor Oasis Ballroom, conveniently located right next to our other Ball events!

The re-enactment of the Unification War will take place out by the pool at 3 PM.  We will be supplying guns, foam squirters, and grenades.  The average temperature for October 4 is 93 degrees, but the projected temperature is 100 degrees right now.  You will want to stay cool.  Don’t worry about getting your clothes wet.  They will definitely be dry by Sunday afternoon.  After the War, there will no doubt be some incidents that continue between the Browncoats and the Purple Bellies, and maybe even a few Reavers might appear.

The Friday Meet and Greet will be from 6 PM to midnight.  It is a t-shirt night.  Please wear your favorite Firefly/Serenity t-shirt.  If you don’t have one, we will have some for sale.  We will be looking for the funniest and the most unique.  We might even be looking for the shirt that is the most popular.  We will have Mikey Mason performing at 7 PM, and a group of belly dancers around 8 PM.  There will be a game to help people mingle especially for those that have come to the Ball alone.  Plus the room will have fun games and activities.  Then we have arranged to have people from Arizona State University come and set up telescopes up on the top floor of the hotel parking garage.  We were planning on doing some stargazing.  The weather is predicting clouds on Friday, so our stargazing might become moon gazing.  If you are a night owl, join us in the hospitality room when everything ends.

Saturday, October 5, 2013

If you are staying at the hotel, you can enjoy the breakfast buffet and then go for a swim.  Saturday officially starts at 9:30 AM with practice dancing.  Then the buses will arrive to take folks to their chosen tracks.

  • 11:45 AM – Lassiter Track to Stratum Laser Tag
  • 12:00 PM – Whitefall Track to Rawhide

When you return to the hotel after the tracks, stop by the hospitality room for our Saturday Sundae Social.  We will have ice cream treats for you from 2:30 to 4:30.

Ladies, we will have a Primping Room available at 3 PM.  It will be at the hotel’s boardroom.  One of our members has donated Mary Kay supplies, so you can use our supplies or bring your own.  It will be fun to talk to others as you are getting ready for the Ball.

Gentlemen, you can enjoy the company of other men at the hotel bar for a Gentlemen’s Hour starting at 5:00 PM.

Our photographer will be set up at 6 PM to take your picture.  It is free.

The doors will open to the ballroom at 6:30 PM.  We have a fun evening planned.  We don’t want to give all of our secrets out now, but we promise you that it will be fun!

When the Ball starts, there will be an announcer that will introduce you as you walk in the door. There will be a southwestern food buffet, music, dancing, a centerpiece activity to encourage mingling, and the raffle drawings. There will be a brief auction for Kids Need To Read, followed by more modern dancing later in the night.
After the Ball, the Hospitality Room will be open at 11 PM until the wee hours of the morning. There will be chatting, music, munchies, games, and Serenity and Firefly episodes.

Sunday, October 6, 2013

There will be a free breakfast buffet at the Hotel Restaurant for those that are registered at the Hotel. If you are staying an extra day or if you have time to stay in the afternoon, we are planning a trip across the street to the Pueblo Grande Museum. Then it’s time to say, “Good-bye” to everyone that is leaving on Sunday. Be sure to stop by the Hospitality Room when you leave.
